New gauge cluster for a 2001 HELP!!!

Ok I have a buddy that I am trying desperately to help out He has a 2001 Expy the truck was vandelized among the things that were either stolen, damaged or destroyed in this vehicle one of them was the gauge cluster was trashed as they tried to steal it for his white gauge faces.

He bought a new gauge cluster from a 2001 f150 from a scrap yard with damn near the same milage on it. When we put it in the pats system will not allow the vehicle to start. We put the original trashed one in and it starts fine. I had a friend that is a locksmith come out that owns the $4000.00 machine that programs the chip keys for fords and he has tried programing new keys for the truck with the new cluster in and no luck he has also tried resetting everything and then programing new keys still no luck. What is that we need to do in order to get this thing to work? is there a way of bypassing the PATS system? HELP!!! We are going nuts tring to figure this out.

Talk to your local dealer - there is a TSB that walks them through the process of programming the new cluster to work with the vehicle - it is more involved than just programming the keys again.

As to your second question, good luck trying to bypass the PATS system.

you wouldn't happen to know the TSB number would you? I called and talked with a buddy of mine at ford and he looked it up but couldn't find much about it that we haven't already tried . He asked if I knew the TSB number.

TSB# 01-06-02. You have a 'Type C' vehicle - go to the 'Replacing PATS Module' chart, follow the steps to get your vehicle to learn the new Cluster. (review the TSB and this will make sense).
