Power door locks
Power door locks
they kinda stopped working. Using both the keychain thing and the buttons on the doors.
They will sometimes unlock and lock but mostly just hitting the button makes the locks just move a little. This just started to happend, it has been working fine and I haven't done anything to the vehicle. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Check this out. I go to pick up my truck at the dealers after they have it for 26 hours for an LOF and the door lock repair. Now both doors do not lock. So they try to tell me the switch went bad sitting on the lot in 1 hours time. I had to wait 2 hours for them to get the switch and put it in. So guys try the switch first you can get to them easy and swap the working one for the suspect one to see if that is it.

I have some bad news my locks starting doing this. They acted like they weren't getting enough power at times and other times they worked great. I started tracking it from under the hood checking the fuse. Then I checked the relays under the planel in the dash pluged in two brand new ones. Then I broke down and bought the $69 actuators from the dealer. (Figured I would have them on hand if I was going to pull the door panels). I checked the switches then finally the conection at the actuator. Everything was fine so I decided to pull the acutator out and plug it in and see what it was doing. Pretty much what it was doing in the door not much of anything. I then pluged the new one in and every thing worked great. I can't believe that both of mine would fail at almost the same time. I have a 1999 2WD Supercab with the 4.6 built in KC. Pretty much wanted to let you know that it will most likely turn out to be the door lock actuators. I am going to tear one of them apart tomorrow to see what happened.
I have a 1999 F150 that the power door locks just stopped working also. I replaced the fuse that was blown. However, the locks only work a couple of times before the fuse blows again. Any ideas on what to look for as the problem in this case?
Fuse Blow could also be the same
If the actuator is craped up, it will try to draw more current to operate. If it goes over the fuse rating, it will blow the fuse just like a short circuit.
You can test this in a very LIMITED fasion, by putting in a hgiher amp fuse. DO NOT leave it like this, you would be looking for a fire otherwise. I think that power door lock should be a 15 amp fuse, try it with a 25 or 30 fuse to see if it still blows. If it does real bad actuator or switch.
Either that or try a new actuator with the stock fuse size. Yes it is 70.00 from the dealer ( don;t know if fordpartsonline has these in stock I would imagine and for less ), to see what is going on.
It could also be a problem with the door lock switch, shorting, but that is far fetched in my mind, and it is in plastic, it would have to find a path to ground in the harness plug ( I'm not around my electrical diagram to find out if ground is even in the plug head, I would imagine not ?? )
Just a few ideas, b/c it is a electro mechnaical device, the actuator might also just need the hing points lubed, to remove the additional load, if it works with the higher amp fuse.

The 99 and newer uses a new style actuator that is very prone to what you described. Most of the time i ask people if they maybe had a kid in there that cycled the locks a lot, and the answer is usually yes, or probably. Only way to fix it is new actuators, and now that they are piggyback on the latch (99up) , they are quite a bit more aggrevating to install.

I dont know but it sounds worth a try.
