Disconnecting Check Engine Light
Disconnecting Check Engine Light
With my 94 F150 XLT, the Check Engine Light turns on from time to time and stays on until the engine is shut off. Very annoying and the owners manual indicates its an emissions related problem. I'll get it fixed correctly in time, but.....
Does anyone with a Shop or Electrical Diagnosis manual or heck hands on experience know where in the engine compartment or underneath the truck, I can disconnect a sensor wire to stop the light from coming on?
I'd rather take this approach first, then taking out the cluster light.

Hi Evan
yeah, just climb under truck, start cutting wires etc.
but your computer wont like that.
Is truck running ok? How many miles?
Anyhow...you got choices...a sensor probably is going bad or is bad? As you may know, trb. code may have been thrown, if so, will take a scanner to find it. It also clears codes and turns off ck. eng. light. That may/maynot be correct for your yr. truck?
Of course, thats after the fix.
Good luck....OT

I had an '87 and when it hit a certain amount of miles a light came on and it was to remind me to have some part of the emissions system checked. Got a mechanic friend to reset the light. All it took, as I recall, was a paper clip stuck into a hole in some box connected to the speedometer cable under the dash. My memory is pretty vague on the details... It's been a while and was so insignificant that I really didn't pay much attention to what he was doing under the dash.
On the new trucks you need to reset it with the dealers hand-held scanner or cut wires. If you know there is a problem and you are going to fix it why would you disconnect the light? It isn't that annoying. Your not going to disconnect it and sell the truck are you??? If so most people would catch the fact that it doesn't light up for 3 seconds when you first start the truck.
