Aux Battery Help
hey everyone...I just joined the forum. I have a rather stock '99 F150 5.4 liter, supercab (towing package) 4x4 that I am begining to modify.
I wish to install an aux battery with isolator into my F150. Can anyone help me answer these questions.
How can I find the rating of my alternator so I can choose the correct isolator?
Where is a good place to mount the aux battery and the isolator?
Is there a company that makes a kit specifically for doing this to the F150?
I'm sure I will have more questions, but this is a good start.
TIA

I can definitely answer one of your questions. The alternator is 130 amps.
As for the aux. battery, I've seen a couple of places people have installed them. One was mounted in a custom steel box between the frame under the cargo box. The other place is in the engine compartment.
The engine compartment installation looks really sweet. It consists of a new battery tray where the pair of batteries are put next to each other in the same place as the old tray. The batteries are actually turned 90 degrees to how the original is installed.
Somebody had pictures and a source in this forum a while back. Not sure if the search function is running again, but you might want to go back about a year or so.

Dual Battery Tray Found
I found a company that has a battery tray for installation of dual batteries under the hood of my '99 F150. I am going to order some things from them and will post my experience with them.

Wrangler Power Products makes a sweet dual battery kit for the F150/Expedition and many other vehicles. The Ford one is about $300 for tray, solenoid, switch, and all.

There is a little icon to the left that says dual kits.
