Need help with signal mirrors.
I just recently purchased a set of the signal mirror covers that fit the 01 and 02 Lariat. My truck is a 01 XLT, the mirrors have a hookup on them for some sort of wire. My trouble is, is there a wire in the door that is already there for the hookup or will I have to purchase some sort of wiring harness to run to the mirror. My local dealer has been minimal help and I got online to fordparts.com and couldn't find anything that would help. I have come to the conclusion that there is a wire that can be used or they wouldn't make the covers to work. I am under the impression that your truck doesn't know whether it will be a Lariat or an XLT, so there would have to be a hookup if the truck was going to be a Lariat for the mirrors to work. To clarify the type of mirrors, they are the kind that the signal is on the outside of the mirror. Please help, any information is well needed. Whether I can purchase a wire or will I have to wing it and do some splising. My truck already has the power mirrors that came stock if this will help. Please post a reply or email me at fordman088@hotmail.com, thats for your help.
What year is your truck? are these the housings, or the actuall mirrors?
If you go to the kwmuth.com site, and enter in all the info for your truck, you can download thier instructions in a pdf file. In these instructions it tells you where, and wich wires to use.
Did you order the entire housing from ford????

Mirrors
I too am looking for a set of mirrors with the Signal on them. Once I get them I will do a full HOW TO on how I wired them in to the OEM signals...
Can someone Point me to where I can get a set and a guess at the cost?
Thanks,
Andre (MegaMax)

What I did here was:
Found the Ignitions Positive lead to the Radio (Only has power when KEY is in!!!)
Ran that to a 12v Relay (Radio Shack) few bucks don't recall the price.
Mounted and installed Fogs next to Front Plate. (See Pic)
Ran a wire to the Positive from the Battery to the Fogs (In line Fuse at battery)
In the Cab I wired a Switch and Green LED in the dash. When the Switch is open everything is OFF. If the switch is closed the LED is ON and the Relay sends a Ground to the Fogs (closing the Fog Circuit making them turn on)
Rather than sending a Positive from in the cab to the Lights they are actually controlled by the Ground cable.
With this setup if the Key is out, regardless of the switch position the Fogs are OFF. ( No way to kill battery) It's safer in the event of a wire getting shorted to have it be the Ground because the longest run was from the Cab to the Front that is the ground cable. Always use an Inline Fuse. Fuse = $1.00 at most If you short the Electrical system in your truck It will be $50.00 an hour to have Ford look at it to replace the parts Plus the cost of Parts.!!!
