General Cheapness...Getting to Me

Dont get me wrong, I love the truck however things like ill detail below really irk me!

First of all, the **** for the power mirrors doesnt stay on, and eventually, about 2 months ago, fell off and went AWOL on me. Anyone have this happen to them?

Second Rant: The plastic piece on the very end of the gear shift selector (NOT 4x4) breaks off frequently. I found that superglueing it works for about a month, then it breaks off again?

Ok /rantoff

Keep on truckin!

In both cases, the plastic piesces are probably broken. Replace both and you should have no other problems.

Thumbs down Cheap Glass, too

Besides the front license plate holder that is hooked on with simple plastic tabs that DO NOT give me a lot of faith my license plate will remain on duty, I find a whole lot of Fords with cracked windshields. Mine took a pebble the size of a pea, and cracked along the top. My 12-year old Ford E-150 also suffered a cracked winshield, and as I drive around, I see a disproportionately high percentage of Ford vehicles (especially F-Series trucks) with broken winshields.
Come on, Ford! Give us a break, but not in the winshield!

Angry

After my '93 f150 I said no more fords. Somehow I wound up buying a used '97 f150. What's the first problem I have? The window washer switch doesn't work! Solution; take the switch apart and remove the factory grease and reassemble with a nice conductive grease. Why do I mention this in a general cheapness thread? Because I had the same problem with my '93! How can ford not correct this type of problem over the course of 4 years and a complete redesign??? I also have the intermittant door switches, missing shift lever cap, and a flaky hot/cold control that seem to plague these trucks. And no limited slip in the rear. That seems the height of cheapness to not make limited slip standard in a 4x4!

other that these few items I really like the truck. Thank God for these forums to assist with all the problems!

Ford has a flakey WW switch -- often turning on the wipers and washers by itself when you least expect it.

I've experienced it on both a 95 Ranger and 97 F-150. The dealer feigned ignorance -- but had them in stock (hmmm).

Several others on this board have noticed that their truck came with that "feature".
