Question Tapping Overhead Console for Radar Detector

Hey Guys,
I have the overhead console with the temp/compass. I want to tap the 12V up there for my spiffy new radar/GPS unit. I've tried to understand the wiring, but getting stuck. Has anybody done this and if so, can I get directions. Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to all..

I wired my radar detector into the overhead console of my 2001 SuperCrew. I used a meter to determine which was the "hot" wire. Here are photos and comments. Best of luck !!

Remove small overhead console (four clips)and disconnect cable from plug.

Confirm that white/ blue wire is 12 volt w/ key in ignition
Splice radar detector (hot) cable into SCrew white/ blue wire.

Tape wires together

Gound radar detector to console bracket.

Complete installation.

Hey Thanks FedExPilot!
That was exactly what I needed. I'll post picts to let you know how it turned out. Probably won't get to it though until after Christmas (with all the family in town).

Have a Great Holiday and Happy New Year!!!!

Matt

Hey FedExPilot!
Well finally got time to get the install done. I had to do a little drilling into the sheet metal to get a good ground. The screws that hold bracket to the roof are coated. Other than that, it was smooth sailing. Check out my pictures here..Install

Thanks again for the help and Have a Happy New Year!

Hey FedEx (thanks for the packages over the holidays!)

It displays it in a couple of ways. You can have real time direction and land speed, or have the latitude and longitude displayed real time, with the altitude scrolling in. I haven't determined the sensitivity of the unit yet (guess I could read the manual) in terms of differentiating locations.

My speedo is about 2 mph fast compared to the GPS (I wonder which is more accurate, hhhmmmmm)
