Question interior light delay - F-450

Hi - I've got an '01 screw, and find that a whole lot of the electrical is the same as on my work truck, so will ask ya'll if you have any suggestions on a really annoying problem with my F-450 (Please forgive me for bringing a big boy into this forum!!!)

My work truck is a bare bones '01 F-450, it has absolutely nothing fancy on it, , except it has a really, really, really annoying delay on the interior lights after the door is shut.

Sometimes after I close and lock the doors, it is several minutes before the @@#$ lights shut off. It's a crew cab, and I never really know if all the doors are shut and the lights are going to go off.

My screw's lights go off when the door closes, (if all doors are shut) and I like it that way. The delay on my 450 is a real pain.

Anyone got any suggestions??? I'd really like just to disable the delay, and have the lights shut off when the doors are closed.

Thanks - and again, forgive me for bringing the big boy in here (also got a 350 and a couple of 800's in the mix - Ford RULES!!!)

Thanks!!!

I wonder if your work truck has the same switch in the door latch?

The delay could be caused by the door ajar switch being sticky with dirt. If it's like the F-150, then a liberal dosing of the door latch with WD-40 should clear it up.

The last time this happened, it was because somebody didn't realize that the dash dimmer switch also controls the interior lights. If you turn (roll) it all the way to one side, the interior lights go on.

My 97 has all the above mentioned problems, I will try WD-40 tomorrow on the latch. WD-40 is a terrible lubricant but it does not leave residue and should work great for this application…thanks.

01screw_dude I find if I close the door before inserting the key the light will go off, I know, hell of a way to fix a problem but give it a try.

Yes the lights stay on in my 97 and have a mind of their own, also I’m thinking this is related to the door ajar issue if I insert key before closing the driver side door.

The other bitch I have is the darn bed and dome lights being on when the door is open, is there a chip or something to turn this light off after a preset time? It’s a real pain and something I would expect to see on a GM product. Why dosnt the bed light and dome light have a "good ole" on/off switch, is that too much to ask?

This is the only complaint or problem I have had with my truck....FORD BABY!!!!!
