Windshield Wipers and Odometer readout...

Has anyone had either of these?
*My windshield wipers on my 1999 F150 will just turn on for no reason? Sometimes they just stop on their own, and other times they keep going until I either hit the switch, or have to shut the truck off?
**Or have you had it where the digital Odometer readout goes blank, and then comes back on but sits there and seems like it is reading codes or some other wierd thing, because it looks like it is going a hundred miles a second....Yet the mileage is still accurate?
I didn't have any of these problems until the dealership installed my the third transmission in my truck, and I am thinking it might be something that was wired wrong, or is arcing from another wire or something. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks in advance.
David

I would think that they might have pinched a wire causing a short.

The phantom wiper issue, usually means a bad turn signal lever. It seems to be a rather common issue.

Take it back to the dealer....???

'99 wipers

My '99 Expy did same thing--Ford dlr worked on it twice before changing out relay. Svc said they had a lot of similar probs.
This was in July '99 when truck was still real new. Wipers would come on for no reason or when turn signal was used.

Come to think of it, long ago while still under warrantee, I had my whole turn signal arm replaced because when I bumped it to make the wipers just do one cycle, it either didn't work, or they went on by themselves for a while. Seems to me they put a longer one on than the original, but haven't had a problem since, and this was years ago.

What is really weird, it only does it every so often, not all the time, and then all I really have to do is move the rotating part of the signal stalk, and then it goes away. What really makes it bad is really rough streets, which leads me to believe that there is a bad connection somewhere, have to check it out this weekend.

There was an owner satisifaction campaign a couple of years ago for all the 99's, including my 99 Expedition, because of what was referred to as 'random wiper swipes'. The dealer at no cost swapped the wiper switch. I had not had the problem, prior to the switch change, and haven't since either, but this was a fairly common problem.

i've got the phantom wipers too, in my 99. The fix is to replace the multi function switch...which i have yet to do, because it still makes me laugh when they come on. My gf thinks it's hilarious

Do you know what the TSB was for that with the customer satisfaction? Just wondering if you know, I wouldn't mind getting that taken care of before they decide not to work at all.
