Angry Trouble with driving lights

I'm having trouble installing a set of aftermarket 55w driving lights. For those that have installed them, what color wire did you tap into to get power to your switch. I tried the green/black and still no power to the switch. I'm not sure if I don't have power, or if the switch is bad. Any hints will be appreciated.

T O'HF150,

Green/Black is the high beam wire. If you are trying to hook up the lights to come on only when your high beams are on, then you're on the right track.

Different procedures are used to complete the curcuit depending on which companies driving lights you're working with.

With Hella and PiAA, you tap into the high beam the connect the relay to power source and also ground the relay. Then you just plug in the switch and you're done.

A couple of things to look for are a good, clean connection on all wires. Also, if the lights were not properly grounded when you tried to turn them on you may have blown the in-line fuse supplied with the wiring harness.

If this doens't lead you to a resolution of the problem, tell me what lights you have and where you are getting power and grounding them and I'll tell you what's wrong.

Adam,
I think you helped me out. I thought the green/black wire was the power to the parking lights. My bad. Do you know which color wire is to the parking lights? I want to be able to turn these on while just having my parking lights on. Thanks again. Tom

Tom,

The wire for the Park Lamp is Brown. If you tap into this wire at the parking lamp itself, at the front of the engine compartment, it will cause your driving lights to blink when you use your turn signals.

If you want to use this wire then tap into it behind the light switch in the cab of your truck. It's as simple as plugging it into the connector with the brown wire. (if you do not already know how to remove the light switch, do a search on "Insterment Panel")

The parking light wire runs to your selector switch in the cab and only supplies power when you parking lights are in the "ON" position. Because it's before the relay they will not blink with your turn signals.

If they are true driving lights and not fog lights though I would urge you to use the High Beam wire at the light. For legal and courtious reasons, the driving lights should only come on with the high beams. If they are wired into the high beams then all you need to do is turn the switrch on to supply it with power and when you want to use them, turn on your brights. They will come on and go off with your high beams instead of having to play with 2 switches. This is the set up I use with my Hella's. They work great on the freeway and dark country roads and if some jackass cuts me off I just pull back on the turn signal lever and it's lights up their entire car as if lightning struck it.
