Electical braking system for trailers

I have a 1998 F-150 Lariat that supposably came with an electrical braking system for trailers. But I don't see how this is possible without a control box to control gain and such, any help would be appreciated.

What the truck came with is a connector under the dash to hook up an electrical braking controller for a trailer. The connector is just in front of your right knee when seated in the drivers seat. May be hard to find but it is up there in that mess of wires.
My 97 came with a box that included the matching connector for the electronic brake controller and an adapter for a 7 down to 4 wire conversion.

If you want the control box wiring harness, let me know... I have a spare that I'll let go cheap.

BeastRider, T Ellenberger,
I have a 01 Supercrew that came with the factory towing package- tow hitch and wiring harness, etc (I refuse to discuss supercooling radiators here). Until I read this thread, I thought that the towing wiring package only included wiring for marker lights, turn signals, and brake lights.

Does this factory wiring package also include wiring to support an electical trailer brake? Or is Whiplash talking about another type of wiring package?

The wiring is supposed to be all there from under the dash all the way to the 7 pin connector. All you need to do is plug in the controller (mount it too, I guess) and the trailer. At least that's what I've been told. Don't use electric trailer brakes, so never really checked.

I don't know if i have read this right but ok....... i just bought a new trailer...... bought the electric brake controller and had them install it........well it took the guy all of about 30 seconds to put it in.....he just plug it in under the dash and mounted it.....i have a 01' screw 4x4 with the tow package.....so i am assuming it should be all wired up and ready to go.

The tow package includes the 7 wire system which has... lessee... electric brake control, battery charge wire, and backup lights in addition to the regular stuff on the 4 wire
