Power Mirror Switch

Power Mirrors have crapped out... 98 f-150xlt w/o factory keyless entry. I looked in the owners manual to see if it could be a blown fuse but the only thing I could find connected to the power mirrors was relay number 4 under the dash. I pulled it an reinstalled it to make sure it was seated good. I recently cleaned the truck and the only thing I can think of is that maybe some armor all got into the switch. Anybody have any ideas?

Power mirror switches are not very rugged. Mine on my 97 F150 has been replaced twice, and now seems to work when it wants, again. They are a do it yourself project that costs about $20.00, and 5 minutes of time. All you have to do is pull up on the panel that has the window and mirror controls, and there it is, ready to be replaced.

Bought a new switch.... nothing... figured out which fuse was the right one an pulled it... It was zapped... Put a new one in... Now it works on the drivers side but when I switch to passengers and try to move it, ZAP and the fuse is fried!

Had the same problem verbatim, I replaced the passenger switch. It had an electrical short in it. Most likely from my 4yo discovering Daddy’s window roller upper downer. Internally, they are poor quality, but it’s widespread, not just Ford.

Yea 14 bucks later I figured out that I had pinched the wires on the passenger side when replacing the door panel.

Thumbs down "Quality is job 1"

I love my truck but Ford could have done a more thorough job assembling their electrical parts. I've spent a lot of time fixing problems because parts were either poorly designed or poorly assembled.

Today I fixed the mirror switch on my '97 XLT

A few days ago it started with the passenger side only moving out then the drivers side only went up and down. Yesterday they both stopped working all together.

Today was the first that I had time to look at the switch and found the electrical posts were covered in that green grime connections sometimes get from moisture. What bugs me is that the connection wasn't water proof and there was no dialectric grease to protect it. Part of the problem may be that water poors in through the crack in my door.

I took it apart competely and cleaned every peice of metal and plastic (It was covered with green deposits). While I was re-assembling it, I sealed the seams with dialectric grease so I wouldn't have to deal with this again. Then I went out to my truck, plugged it in and tried to adjust my mirrors.

Of course it works now!!! Grrr!!!!!

I suppose it gave me something to do with my time but that doens't mean I should have to deal with this.
