Aftermarket Power Window Question
A couple of years back, I bought a 2006 STX. The original owner said his dad bought it for him new as his first truck. His dad had the manual windows replaced with aftermarket power windows by the dealer. They didn’t work all that well when I bought the truck and are even worse now. If I roll down the drivers side, I have to pull up on the window to get it to close. I want to replace the guts on both sides. I admit to not being much of a Motörhead. I purchased replacement units from Amazon. Then I got to thinking, what I bought is stock aftermarket for units that came original to a truck with power windows. Will these even go into the door of a manual window door? Will the aftermarket plugs even work with the units I bought? Do I need to instead by aftermarket units of the kind that replace manual windows? If I have to get into retiring, that’s a whole can of worms I’d rather avoid. I could use some friendly guidance here. Thanks in advance.

i've always hated having to lean over and crank the window down on my stx lol so i have been doing some research into this lately as well.
so far i can't answer your question 100% about the power/non-power door frames being the same. but for 11th gen 2004-2008, regular cabs and crew cabs use the same door. supercabs use a different door.
if the frames are identical (which i *think* they are), then it's a matter of removing the manual regulator assembly from the door and installing the power regulator assembly in. i have yet to determine if they use the same glass but i will try to keep researching.
as far as wiriing, you would have to determine how his dad set it up. the connectors are probably different from oem ford, but those can be cut off and changed.
for 11th gens the factory uses a 30 amp circuit breaker at location 401 in the fuse box to power the windows.
to me some of these aftermarket setups look like really cheap plastic and prone to breakage (like you say is happening to you) and i plan to try to stay away from them.
