Cigar lighter failure

I have a 2018 fx4 3.5 eco boost. It has the 40 20 40 front seats with usb and cigar lighter ports on the back of the console. My use charge ports work fine. I lost power to the cigar lighter and have been unable to get power back on it. The power points on the dash work fine. I have replaced the fuses on the power dist box under the hood and checked the fuses inside the cab. All are fine but still no power to the cigar lighter that I use to heat water for coffee. Has anyone else had this issue and know of a fix for it?

If it was properly fused, I wouldn't think there would be a wiring issue from too much current draw.

I'm guessing you have, but you didn't mention it. Did you try another 12v item into the cigar lighter port? Maybe your water heater device is shot?

I really do need to ask... how do you make coffee in your truck? Do you use instant coffee or do you use some kind of drip device or french press? If it was tea, that's different... sorry, but I just want to know, because I'm curious.

I prefer turkish style. Pot of boiling water, dump some grounds in, wait about 5 minutes then use a sieve to filter my coffee to keep the grounds out... but I don't that in my truck in fear of making a huge mess. For some, the thought of me doing this grosses them out for some strange reason too. LOL

thanks for the response. Yes I have tried other devices in the plug and there is no power to it. I use the dash plug with the coffee pot now and it works fine. The plug on the back of the console was just more convenient. As to how I make coffee in the truck, yeah I use instant, tasters choice dark roast. It’s not what I use at home but on long nights in a rural area it beats no coffee and I can make it several times on a shift to keep it hot.
the fuses are the factory installed and there were a couple out under the hood that were blown and I replaced them with OEM fuses. At the time I had lost power on all 3 power points. I ordered the fuses from waytech as there were 3 blown and the dealer only had 2. Lol. The parts stores all had the same type fuses for Chevy and dodge but the one comparable for Ford that they started using in 2018 is slotted. The others won’t work. Btw: the dealer wanted 8 dollars each, I bought them from waytech for 75 cents each. I just had to order at least 12. Yes it is the factory OEM fuse. I ordered 30 each of the 10,20,30, and 40 amp fuses. Not going to be caught this way again. The parts stores all said the manufactures they deal with just haven’t started producing the slotted fuses yet. According to them this was fords way to keep the parts business. I presently own 3 f150s and in the past have had about 18 other Ford cars, trucks, and suvs. I’ve always been satisfied with my fords but I may change brands next time.

Ahh, that's what I thought. When I used to do more construction work late at night (telco tech running miles of fiber/ethernet), I used to keep a bottle of tasters choice in my truck too. So I didn't have to run off site to grab some coffee. My truck would have the supplies in it my workers needed so it wouldn't be good if I rolled off. I'd try to find a microwave on site, and heat up some water and use that in desperation -- especially on those off nights that during the day I couldn't sleep for whatever reason. Or I'd bring a smaller electric kettle I could wire a plug on or use the site genset. Trust me, I used to get creative... If there wasn't such a thing as electrolysis, I would go find some two bare copper wires that had some 110v on it and stick that in my cup! haha But the 12v water heater, brother, you got one up on me!

Anyhow, back on topic....

My next troubleshooting step would be to get a multi-meter and remove the cigar lighter and test the voltage on the plug that feeds into the socket. Could be a bad socket. If you don't have a multi-meter you can get a cheap one (or sometimes free w/coupon) from your local Hazard Fraught.

Hazard fraught. Lol. That’s a good one. Yeah I have a couple of multimeters. Now if I can remember how to use them. Lol
