No electrical power 1991 F150

Hi all. First post. Just bought this truck. I've gone from start right up to would crank but no start to no power anywhere.
New battery with 12.4 volts. New alternator. Cleaned and reattached a couple grounds. EEC and fuel pump relay check out ok. Continuity from negative battery cable to body and engine. Won't crank by shorting starter relay.
Last night while looking at my fusible links I found something. (See picture). It's in the bundle that comes from the alternator. Not sure what it is but when I twisted the two pieces I got power. I could turn on the headlights. It gave me the gauges. When I turned the key the fuel pump ran for 2 seconds.
When I tried to start it I got a couple clicks and then no power again. I took this thing apart and put it back together. I was able to get power again a couple times but again when I tried to start i'd get a couple clicks and then no power situation again.
Pretty sure the number for the inline thing is "e/d-b 14489 ka".
Any clues what this thing is and/or a solution to my no power situation?

Thanks.

That looks like an inline fuse holder for an old style glass fuse. I can't even guess how many amps it has to be, I don't have a manual.

Well, here's the funny thing. There's a socket in one piece and a pin about the size of a 6 penny finish nail that goes into that socket in the other one.
