intermittent rear view camera

intermittent rear view camera
On my 2014 F150 STX i have the rear view camera (the screen is integrated into the rear view mirror on this model as I dont have the big display in the center dash).
I get the camera about 60% of the time i shift into reverse however the other times i get just a blue screen which times out and turns off. Shifting again sometimes brings it back to the camera view.
I'm pretty sure this is some intermittent connection but my question is *where*?
Has anyone taken this system apart and know where the important connectors are?
I was goign to start by taking the back off the tailgate and looking at the physical connection to the camera (which is built into the Ford logo on the tailgate)
Any other ideas?
