Daytime Running Lights
Does anyone know what I can do to turn on / install DRL's in my 2001 F-150, I have seen many around town with the DRL's and are not from Canada where DRL are required. I have looked in the owners manual for fuses and relays and have found where they are but they also control other items as well, such as radio or trailer lights. any help would be great
If you have the "AUTO-LAMP" option you may try the following modification from information in found in a search. The sensor is under the top right portion of your dashboard. The "Search" function got me to this but I could not go deeper into the origional post. Good luck,

Here is an excerpt from "ke4kfs" posted 03-11-2001:
"Following the suggestion I found within this topic, I gently pried the dash cover off and accessed the autolamp sensor. Initially, my intention was to partially cover the sensor with electrical tape; upon closer examination, however, I discovered a small yellow screw located on the side of the unit. After experimenting with the settings, I learned that the yellow screw adjusts the sensitivity of the autolamp sensor. On my 2000 F-150, turning the screw clockwise caused the lights to come on sooner (in less darkness), which is what I wanted to increase safety."
To be honest, I "thought" the yellow screw was an adjustment for how long the lights would remain on after turning off the ignition at night - - guess I was wrong. Hope this helps. There are some pics from "Storm" and Skyjet at http://www.geocities.com/skyjet1/DRL.html

Hello fourhour,
There have been many discussions on this one. If you did a search you may have already found some of the info.
Bottom line is don't buy the "kit" available. It entails cutting into wires and so forth. There are two parts you would get at the dealer, forget the names but the guy at the counter should(?) know what they are. One would be plugged in near the drivers side headlight. Get under there and look up. You should see a wire that just ends and has a dummy plug in it. The other part requires removing the large oval insert over the glove box on the dash. Be carefull doing this. You will see another plug that just has a wire looped out and back in. You would unplug this and put in the new part. Done. You have DRL's.
