Do they come on at any time if you slowly move the shifter back and forth around the reverse detent?

1. What fuses did you check, and how did you check them ?

I am working from a 2012 EVTM, but it shows 1 hot at all times fuse and the FET for the circuit.

You can test the fuse while installed, the key position is not important.
You need to test from a known good ground, one at a time to each pin on the back of the fuse while the fuse is installed in the BCM.

The activation of the reverse circuit is over the Module Comm Network, this activates the FET which is providing power from the fuse to the reverse lamps ( and the trailer tow adapter reverse lamp relay ).

2. Have you tried to hook up aux reverse lamps to the truck's reverse circuit ?
- At any time, even if you have tried it and taken them off.

This is an important question, as the FET is there to provide not only the switching function but also a certain amount of circuit breaker function to the circuit.
If the circuit is repeatedly overloaded, this can cause the FET to fail, and the only way to correct this is to replace the BCM ( $$$$ ).

Thanks! SScully where is the fuse located that you are referring to. Passenger kick panel or under hood? I checked all the fuses indicated by the owners manual that controlled the reverse lights.

That means the MLPS (manual lever position sensor) is out of adjustment. This also acts as the neutral safety switch.
