Back up lights
Back up lights
Dumb question of the day. I see on many posts that people are using 55w backup lamps. Are these bolt on lamps or just a change to the bulb in the OE assembly?
Has anybody put brighter bulbs in the cargo lights?
Bulb numbers would be great. Owners manual lacking!
Thanks

The bolt on variety are commonly 55W.
I've heard of guys putting 55W in the factory tail/backup light socket, but that it didn't look any brighter. This is probably due to the design of the factory lens and reflector. I've also heard of a guy putting in 100W bulbs but it melted the plastic lens.
I just installed KCHilites, 26 series, backup kit #517, with an extra switch in the cab. Very bright, well made, glass lenses, all parts are replaceable. Recommended highly.

I've added some aftermarket projector fog lights. Work great. Attached is a link to the photos on the f150gallery.

Pretty simple. I've got the towing package, so I had 12V power and a trip signal for the reverse relay right there. Lights come on when I stick it in reverse. Tied the relay into the system and tucked it into a waterproof (?) box up next to the underside of the bed. Cost less than $25 and about an hour of my time. Makes a huge difference in backing up at night.
Did the same setup on my last truck. Lasted for 8 years with no problems (other than replacing a bulb or two).
