The GEM Saga 2nd time around
Well in the beginning, I bought a GEM online and tried the do it yourself route, no joy.
A year or so later, I had had enough of no power windows, and was starting to get other problems. Radio problems, battery going dead, just to mention a few.
Took it to the Dealer, Phil Long in Colorado Springs. Was quoted approximately $700.00 to replace GEM, did that. Well that didn't work, the Fuse Box is bad also, another $600.00. That didn't work either. Seems the year or so of not being used caused the window motors to seize up. $276.00 and 2 new window motors later, it now works. Was about $1625.00 later that it was fixed. Its an old truck, but its been a good truck so I spent the money. There did seem to have been some kind of water leak, the area around the GEM and fuse box was a little rusty. If you have any questions, just ask. Wish I would have had the dealer do it in the beginning, might have been cheaper in the long run.
