Backwards window switch?

1999 SCab, both window switches were giving me trouble when I bought it last summer. The passenger side switch would only roll the window down, the driver's side switch would only roll it up. Used this thread How to Fix a Defective Window Switch and got the passenger side working fine but the driver side switch was still hit or miss after two cleanings. A couple days ago I ordered a new Motorcraft driver's side switch on ebay. Popped it in place and both buttons work fine every time except for one problem: the passenger window goes up when you push down, and down when you push up.

Tried the original driver side switch again and verified it still rolls the passenger window up when you press up. (Still does not roll passenger side down.) OEM passenger side switch works fine no matter which driver side switch is installed.

Naturally my first thought was the new switch is built wrong, but how likely is this? The ebay seller has a good reputation score and the switch looks brand new. The Motorcraft box it came in looks very legit. There is only one way the connectors will plug in, so I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Considering the issue started with the new switch, that is what I would take as the issue.

the connector is polarized with the tab only on one side.

Either the switch is the wrong one in there, or someone took it apart to clean it and put the rockers back in backwards ?
- The 04+ MY this can happen if one does not watch what they are doing I did not think the previous ones could do this, but I never tried.

Update: The switch was listed on Ebay for years 97-02, but looking at fordparts.com the driver side switch became a new part after August 1998 (beginning of the 1999 model year). Town East Ford in Mesquite TX was very good about swapping the part out and said he would get the listings changed to be more accurate. Thanks for your reply SSCULLY.
