Help with '97 taillight

Hi all,

We have a'97 XLT and need to replace one of the backup lamps.

We bought the truck used from a dealer, and the manual we received with it was for a 1998 F-150, not a 1997. The instructions in the manual do not appear to match the lights on the truck.

After lowering the tailgate, you are presented with two hex screws that are attached to the taillight assembly. Removing those make the assembly loose, but we can't seem to get the assembly out.

No doubt we're missing something basic, but I was wondering if anyone knows the details for removing the taillight assembly so we can replace the bulb.

I tried the "Sorry honey, but we need to replace the whole truck", but she's not buying it.

Thanx!

Will

According to my Haynes manual for 97 and 98 trucks, all you should have to do is remove those two bolts you mentioned and pull. I had mine off before, took a little tugging as I recall. Sorry if this doesn’t help, but I tried. Good luck.
