burning wires and not tires

Just rebuilt wifes 89 f150 5.0. Found the ground problem and in the middle of chasing grounds I ended up pulling a wire from the harness that is in front of the battery on the passenger side. I know it was connected to the battery ground and tried reconnecting them together and individually but still smokes the wires. Any suggestions would be great. We did put a new solenoid on as well
