f150 1992 Brake indicator light in Dash cluster doesn't light.

How do I check / replace the light for the brake indicator on the Dash cluster. Light doesn't come on when the ignition key is turned on, or when parking brake is set.
Truck won't pass state inspection without it.

What is the best way to restore the headlights too? cost of replacement lenses?

Thanks.

Dave

The bulb should self-test in the START position. If it doesn't, you most likely need a new bulb in the cluster.

Thanks for the info. The owner's manual doesn't address how to change a cluster bulb. What is the best way to gain access to them?

The service manual has instructions on how to pull the cluster.

AutoZone's website has repair guides for many vehicles. You might want to check and see if yours is available.

ok, replaced the bulb, light still won't come on. switched light sockets with another indicator to check that. Still doesn't come on. Not sure where to look next. Trying to stay out of the connector and wiring,,,, not sure that will be possible though.
Any help appreciated.

On your brake fluid reservoir is a float switch, perhaps in the cap. Is it plugged in and is the fluid level correct?

I checked the connector on the side of the brake fluid reservoir. disconnected it, sprayed it with electronic cleaner, let it dry and restored it. verified the fluid was at the full mark. I verified the connector on the Master cylinder was also tight. hard to disconnect without breaking the tabs. The brake indicator still doesn't illuminate.

Is there a switch on the Parking Brake? and if that was bad, would it cause the light to not come on when starting the truck?

Resolution found! It was the little plastic switch on the parking brake. It had some dirt / corrosion that created a high resistance. So much so, that it would not allow the "brake" indicator to illuminate when turning the truck on. a 16 dollar part,, and few hours of wire checking.
