Non-Functioning Turn Signals

,ve been lurking here for a while, I've searched this forum, and I've read multiple threads regarding this issue. Unfortunately I am either screwing up, or my problem isn't solved. Take mercy on me, I don't have a good hisory of auto repair.

My truck is a 2003 F-150 CrewCab. I bought it new, and it has served me extremely well.

The turn signals stopped working intermittently, until a month ago when they quite working altogether. Of the 7 functions, only the 2 turn signals don't work, everything else, including the hazards is gtg. I took it to a local mechanic to get a diagnosis. They said the wires held into a gray, dogleg box (I call it a junction box) had broken the clips that hold them in place against the multifunction switch (MFS). He said it shorted my MFS, and I would need a new one. He also said a dummy like me can fix it. Perhaps he overstated my abilities...

I searched and junkyard and found a few pristine junction boxes thingies (highly technical term). I drew a diagram of said box with colors of wires going to their specific holes. I rewired and got audible clicks on all seven wires. They all stayed when I gave a tug.

Please note where the screwdriver is pointing, that gray box is what I refer to as a junction box.

Still there was no joy. I installed a pair of MFSs and that didn't improve things at all.

I went to talk to some friends at the local shortline railroad. They took a look and said it might be the relay. Now here is where I get confuzzled. I read another thread that referred to something as a circuit board. Are we talking about the samething?

Anyway I went to the dealership and got one. It is blue. It cost $31.12. Now I had to figure out how to install it. I unscrew all 30, 000 screws holding the lower dash, the portion under the steering wheel. When I did, a black box was before me. I took it apart and there were two relays, a larger blue one and a smaller black one. I put the new one in, but still the signals don't work.

Here's what I saw when I removed the dash

So anyways folks, with me changing what I'm told was the turn signal relay, trying different MFSs, and changing that junction box so the wires stay in place, can anyone tell me how to fix my truck?

I live in DFW(North Dallas) and would be happy drive if someone would be willing to help. I don't have much cash (started a new job), but I have ammo to trade.

See picture with screw
