GEM Module

Does a GEM module have to be programed or reprogrammed?

Not a truck, but my wifes Escape. The coolent level light came on with the coolent at the proper level. I changed the coolent tank (and the float switch) but the light still comes on.

Funny that it is not on in the morning when the engine is cool, but comes on when it gets to operating temperature. The coolent in the tank is normal with a slight rise over the cold fill line.

Any thoughts, i am stumped and can only think this has something to do with the GEM Module.

Got a chance to pull the diagram off the server this evening, my thoughts were confirmed. The low coolant level switch has nothing to do with the GEM, it is a switch direct to the Instrument cluster.

Either there is an issue with the connector for it ( considering you replaced the low coolant level switch with a new one ) or the issue is with the instrument cluster itself.

Under the hood, my Mariner resembles my old Conturd. One of the things that Conturd owners soon discovered was that overfilling the coolant tank by 1/2 - 1" when cold solved intermittent "low coolant" lights. You might give that a try.

Thanks Gentlemen, i can now eliminate the GEM as the problem.

I will look at the wiring more closely, the connector looks good. The light should go off when diconnected from the switch, but it does not. It comes on when the engine warms up, very confusing.

If I have to pull the instument cluster, I will just remove the bulb.
