Losing [almost] all electrical power
Losing [almost] all electrical power
I have an electric issue that has been happening more and more often lately, that is very troublesome and potentially unsafe.
At random times when I am driving I will lose all electrical power. Sometimes it will flicker and come back, sometimes it will drop entirely. When it goes fully I lose power steering and brakes, and there is a large 'thunk' and a grinding/scraping noise from under the truck.
Another symptom is sometimes when I turn off the truck (after running normally the whole drive) all power will be lost as soon as I turn the key to 'Off'. No interior lights, no dash lights or display.
In both of the above cases (power lost or flicker while driving, upon shutoff) the trip odometer will reset. Also in both of the above cases, it appears that the only part of the truck getting power is the flashing red security light on the dashboard.
Does this seem indicative of a PATS issue? I have a remote starter installed (KCAutoSounds' AS-9076N, prewired with PATS ring) but haven't been able to get the PATS bypass working. [See below for more on that.] I had been driving around with the remote starter unit switched on when I was seeing these issues, but recently switched to 'off' and will update when I have a chance to drive more and tell if the problem persists.
Anyone seen issues such as this? Any advice?
As for the remote starter issue: I installed more than a year ago and confirmed the starter works (truck starts via 'lock-unlock-lock' with key in or near ignition). PATS bypass procedure is unable to complete programming. Travis isn't answering my emails to resolve the installation issue. when I talked with him on the phone he said I'd have to hot-wire the truck in the middle of the bypass procedure because the unit's delay before attempting to start the engine is too long, but he didn't provide a sufficient explanation as to how this 'hot-wire' was to be done.
