02 f150 xlt 4x4 175k no mods alt and battery were checked with multimeter with leads going to the battery (( not sure if this is correct way to do it but was told by a guy who rebuilds them )) both working good alt read at 14-15 when idleing light flickers when at idle or driving and sometimes stays on when idle or driving its a smaller alt that i replaced for the larger one a while back when it was shot

You need to have the battery load tested ( with a real load tester, not the one size fits all, quick test junk that Autozone does ) and the alternator correctly tested.

You tested one point in the spectrum on the alternator only.

You have a smaller alternator in the truck now, so you could be asking too much of a rebuilt alternator on a questionable battery.

Hard to say, who rebuilt it and how well was it rebuilt ?

Could come back trouble free, could only last 2 weeks...

If the clown that told you to test that way, is the one rebuilding it, I would not put much stock in it.

Start with having someone test the alternator and load test the battery before swapping parts.

Maybe also check for a loose cable.
