Wipers Died

98 F150, 40k miles. Driving along and the left wiper quit and parked itself. Couple minutes later the right one did the same, but makes a feeble effort to move (about 1/3 sweep).
Motor? Multi-function control level? Thanks.

Wiper noise

I have a 2001 F150 super cab 7,200 miles. The driver side wiper motor sounds like it is flying apart. At high speed you can't hear the radio. Anyone have this problem before? Just wanted some more info before I take it to the shop.
Tks, in advance for any help

From what you're saying, it's not an electrical problem If it was, both sides would fail at the same time since there's only one motor. Would have to say it's a mechanical problem. Don't know if your wiper arm in the '98 is the same as it is in the newer models, but if you take the cap off the arm over the shaft, there's a nut under there that can allow the arm to slip on the shaft. Probably to protect the mechanicals inside in case the wipers freeze to the windshield in snow country.

Turn the wipers on and if you see it moving, but the arm isn't, try to tighten that nut and see if that doesn't help.

That was it!

Thank you, Dennis.
I didn't consider the possibility of loose nuts because they both stopped within minutes of each other.

Unhappy

I received a recall notice in the mail today for all 2000-2001 F-150s (well..cars and trucks) for a wiper motor recall. Safety recall 01S24 from FORD.

Loss of wiper intermittent function (low and high speed will still work), complete loss of all wiper function OR melting of cover producing smoke and fire could occur.

The plastic wiper motor cover assembly is the problem..so the letter says.

My recall notice says it's the "wiper motor park switch".
