Gauge cluster, and other electrical issues
Gauge cluster, and other electrical issues
Hi all, I've got a 2008 F-150 Supercab long bed, with a 5.4L 3V and automatic trans, 2wd. With someplace around 250K miles on it.
The problem is, about a year ago the Radio stopped working, like no clock or lights on it what so ever. Which at the time was no big deal as it was just a work truck that wasn't getting used too much anyways. Well in the time since, about a couple months back now, the entire gauge cluster has quit working all together. I've been searching for a solution but haven't really found one. The back lights on the gauges still light up when the headlights come on in case that helps at all with the diag.
I don't mind spending the money to buy a different cluster to drop in if thats what it takes to fix it. I don't however want to waste the money if that more than likely isn't going to do anything. So I figured I'd ask some people with some more experience on it.
I'm very mechanically inclined just electrical isn't my forte, so I am competent to do pretty much whatever it should take I just need some help tracking down this issue or walking me through a repair.
I have seen in another thread that a bad battery could be the culprit, and I'll get it tested in the next couple of days, just from what I've read it seems more than likely not the issue so other possible solutions to check along the way would be great.
Hoping it's doable over a weekend since I need the truck to make a 50 mile each way commute to work 5 days a week and not having a speedometer or gas gauge is no fun.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Many many thanks in advance.
