Ignition and shift lever problems

I've been having problems with the ignition switch and shift lever on my automatic 2003 F150. Been reading up on threads with similar problems in this forum for a while and now I'm not sure if I need to replace a few parts in the column or if I can fix it myself.

The key sometimes does not go all the way into the ignition slot, as if there is some kind of resistance. Also, I don't know if there is suppose to be play in the plastic bezel that holds the ignition switch but I've noticed I can turn it counter-clockwise about 1/4" from the off position.

My problem with the shift lever is that it has a creaking sound when its pulled back. Maybe its just not lubricated? Shifting gears is also a bit more difficult, having to search for gears and the shift lever seems to have stiffened up quite a bit when changing gears. The gear indicator on the dash is also a bit off (in park the indicator is half way between park and reverse) but I think I just have to adjust a screw in the column to fix that.

Lookin' for some advice before I go to the dealership or a junkyard.

On the bottom of the colum there is a lever that pulls the cable to the trans. There are 2, IIRC, bolts that can work loose, tighten them up and you should be golden.

As for the key, get some lube for locks-not W-D 40 and work it in. There is a slight chance that the two issues are connected.
