Odyssey vs Sears??
Guess it's not hard to understand why so many seem to get off the forums for a while...seems like everything gets into a pissing contest no matter what the subject is, like a bunch of damn kids...............
The fact is EnerSys makes the Platinum battery ( last press release found ) for Sears.
That is the end of the facts.
I am just pointing out supposition and conjecture are not facts. If this is a pissing contest to anyone, sorry they feel this way.
If you were spending money on something, would you want to work from opinion, speculation and internet rumor ?
Has Sears ( or EnerSys ) ever came out and said they are the identical battery 1:1 ?
This would be a huge marketing boom for them, making it a no brainer for someone purchasing an AGM battery.
Sears with the press release ( read more marketing material ) already let people infer that they are the identical battery ( it is not implied, only reads as manufacture ), it only helps them.
Marketing 101, do not address rumors, only facts, there is no money to be made in addressing rumors. Too many consumers do not understand this concept.
I can find tons of internet rumor that they are the identical battery as well, but it is an opinion supported by another thread's opinion.
I have seen these internet rumors before myself, with posts about circuits on F150s, finding patient zero ( the 1st thread that the other threads use as the 'fact' ) to be wrong, per Ford's wiring diagrams.
- Unless you are that woman on the Allstate commercial, you should not buy into internet rumor, and work only from fact.
If someone does not feel like contributing to the site for a period of time due to this, not much I can say about it.
Aside from work constraints I am over a decade of contributing to the site, free of charge to members that ask for help.
- This is from facts ( aside from GD & GD subforum threads, where opinion is spelled out, when supplied ).
I agree Steve, don't really see a pissing contest, just sharing of differing opinions, which is what is supposed to take place. As long as everyone can remain civil, we learn. As to your contributions, as we have stated in the past, we really appreciate(as we do with everyone) you sharing your knowledge as well as your ideas.

My apologies, Steve.....just having a VERY bad day today, and 'walk' into this (no pissing contest). Among my searches I did come up with this though even though it's still just words on paper. This came from another forum:
"I e-mailed EnerSys this weekend, their response:
David:
That is a very astute observation. We private label the Sears DieHard
Platinum batteries and they are rebadged Odyssey batteries.
Thanks.

Again, Steve, I get a lot of info from you and others on here and at 65, I have been around the block once or twice. I just hate to see arguing going on and, damn, I find myself wrapped up into it myself...was just trying to give my opinion to the OP. Sorry to you and Jim.

I bought a agm battery for my truck,,, as opposed to buying a lead acid battery from wally world. The reason i got said battery is because the lead battery has the gases that escape and cause corrision on the terminals. Which caused me to get stuck at a gas station for about 30 minutes trying to figure out what was going on. Even got locked out because of the battery problem i had. I even went so far as to replace the battery cable on my truck.
Ive always bought wally world batteries and never had any real problems with them. If i did have a problem with them it wasnt because of the manf that made it,, it was a human made problem that i needed to fix. Mostly not putting water in the battery or having a brain fart leaving the lights on or having radio on to long with amps.

I have a great deal of appreciation for those on this forum that bring "fact" to the table. I personally find no use for anything else (though on rare occasion I have been guilty of bringing "else"
) I have a huge amount of appreciation for Steve and all the others that bring "fact" and not "fiction". That truly helps those that come for honest answers to honest "need for help". I hate seeing uninformed or "PW's" that help no one and waste time and money for so many who take "the counterfeit" to the bank, only later to find it was indeed counterfeit, at a cost of time and money that they likely couldn't afford.
Lastly, I want to thank you Jim for being the fair and level headed moderator that you are (as well as the humor that you share from time to time).

Well, I don't want any responses to this post as this subject has been covered to no end; this is just a post to tie off this thread. I ended up getting another Optima from Summit. After shopping all over town, no one had anything in stock, thus I was stuck waiting on a battery no matter what I chose. Summit had the Optima for $167; no tax, no shipping! Just can't beat that. Regardless of all the discussion, I've been running Optima for 20+ years and one has never let me down or left me stranded, period (knock on wood). Plus, even though the dollar amount was not a factor, I just couldn't see paying at least $50 more for a battery that was a solid 10 lbs heavier and not near as good looking.
