Hello. I have a problem with my 2004 XLT. The light that illuminates the gear shift lever stopped working. Has any one ever had to repair this problem? How do you get to the bulb? Any constructive help would be highly appreciated.

 

2004, is it the new body style or the old body style ?

If new, is is a center console shift or a column shift ?

 

It's the new body style. It is center console shift.

 

Open the glove box, and use a plastic trim tool to remove the silver top off.

Once you have this up, you will see the wires leading to the bulb under the gear shift selector numbers & letters.
