Brake lights work once in a while

My brake lights only work once in a while. And only after I tilt the steering column up and down a couple times. I've also found that the turn signals only work when the steering column is tilted more than half way up. I've that the brake lights could be the brake light on/off switch (BOO). Could it still be the BOO switch even if the lights work once in a while? Or could it be a pinched wire in the steering column? Thank you in advance for any help.
