Window Problems.

I have a 2004 Ford F150 SCrew. My main window switch on Drivers door can control all four windows. But when you try to use any of the windows switches on the actual doors (front passanger, and both rear doors) they won't work. Any clues as to what might be causing this problem? Yes I did check to see if the lock was on, lol.

Did they all stop at once? If not, it is probably corroded contacts in the switches. They are easy to clean and there is a How To in the index of the Articles and How To section. If they all stopped at once, sounds like a broken wire or maybe a bad ground.

They all go up and down, so long as I use the switches from the drivers door. If i try to use any of the switches on the actual doors (as an example if I try to use the passenger front side switch to operate that window) they don't work at all. I also noticed that if I try putting the windows up or down from drivers controls and someone else hits their switch it like cancels the operation, but as soon as they let go the drivers switch works again.

But did this symtom occur on the three windows in one event, or did one quit working, then days later, anothe quit?

Just a SWAG, but check for a broken wire in the rubber boot from the driver's door to the A pillar.

The wire that I am suspecting would be the yellow w/ light green stripe wire.
- This is what provides the + VDC to the other 3 switches. The driver's side motor pairs are through the other switch ( in series ) and if the switch on the individual pair is pressed, it opens the circuit from the driver's side. The window does nothing without power ( as you described just stops ). The pair of wires from the driver's side to the other switches has ground on them in the "at rest" position.

Quick check is when the truck is in the run position, lock off the power window switch illumination should be on, when locked the switch illumination is off
If you flip the lock from on to off and the switches do not illuminate, that would indicate a broken wire.
Most likely is the rubber boot, but it could be anywhere from the switch to the splice in the cab of the truck.

I wish I could answer that, but I just got the truck about three months ago and it came like that. This thing has been nothing but problems since I got it. Had misfires due to plugs and boots, cam phaser problem and two brake calipers locking up on me. So I had put off trying to find the problem with the windows.

Thanks SScully. I'll give it a look at in the morning. Hopefully it is at the boot and not further down the line.

Dark is the easiest time to check for the illumination

Sorry don't think I described it well enough.

The power window switch ( on the other 3 doors ) illumination is what turns on and off, not the lock switch itself.

The lock switch just a SPST switch to the other 3 doors for the + VDC circuit, just like you might have for aux lamps or the likes.

I know this is an old thread but I am having the exact same issues with my 2002 F-150 SuperCrew. I even went out and bought a brand new OEM Ford switch for the drivers side. The weirdest thing was soon as I installed the new switch all the windows worked as they should. I drive 30 seconds down the road and whamo they back to square one. I only have power/control from the drivers control. I pull over, pop off the armrest jiggle the wires and it seems to work normal again (meaning all the windows work with their own door switch plus the master switch works). Soon as I pop the armrest back into the door panel I get nothing from each idividual door. I only have power from the master switch again. This is driving me nuts. I did pull the boot off the door and I didn't see any worn or cut wires. Anybody else have this happen? If yes, what was your fix?

Regards,
Adam
