Keyless Entry System

I purchased a 1999 F150 XLT Flairside last week. I did not received any remote with the set of keys so I assumed that the keyless entry system was not installed. I went to a dealer and gave him my VIN , looked it up in the Ford database and told be that this truck does have one installed from the factory. He asked me if I had a blinking light on the dash (theft) that it automatically comes with the keyless entry system. Is this true? I hate to spend 57.50 for a remote and find out that it does not have the system installed. Need advice.
Thanks,
Mike

Mahr57,

I have 2000 XLT, bought new from dealer, with no factory keyless option. BUT I have the flashing "theft" light. So that MAY not be a good indicator. BUT if they say IT DOES and you buy the fob (remote) and it doesn't work ( i.e. not installed after all )... then they should buy the fob back (I would think).

BTW- I have since installed my own aftermarket remote keyless entry for less than $100 with TWO fobs.

Mah,

Do you know anyone with a Ford that has keyless entry? It is not a hard thing to re-program these key chain remotes, Just take your buddies remotes and program them in your truck, if they work, fine, return them to your buddy, have him re-program to his vehicle and buy yourself a couple of remotes.

If you cannot program them in your truck, your not out anything but about 10 minutes of your time.

Stand on your head under the dashboard... look up on the firewall about a foot above where your left foot would reside. If there is a black box there with a 5-digit code on it, your vehicle can be equipped with both the remote entry (key-fobs) and the keyless entry (doorpad). If you run a search for keyless entry, you'll come up with a ton of info on the subject.

Blinking THEFT light explained

There is no correlation between the blinking THEFT light and keyless entry keypad, remote entry or alarm.

The THEFT light indicates only that the Passive AntiTheft System (PATS) is functional (this is the system that reads the coded igntion key and decides whether to enable or disable engine start) - it will glow for three seconds when you turn the key to RUN or it will blink every two seconds when your ignition is turned off if the system is working properly.

This system is NOT an alarm and does not interface with the remote entry transmitters or keyless entry keypad. In the past some vehicles have used it to indicate the Perimeter Alarm (door/hood ajar Alarm) was armed, but this is no longer the case. The PATS system is standard for all current-model F150s whereas the remote entry & keyless entry keypad systems are optional.

My Gen I SCrew has the "light" but did not come with factory keyless entry or FOBS. The keyless entry was enabled by installing the Lo-Jack system 5. Pushing in on the light, with the key in the 'on' positon activates or de-activates the alarm system...so that light serves move function than just illumination.

I took the advice and read one of the messages posted in the archives. I went ahead and put the computer in the program mode by turning the key on and off 8 times to see it the doorlock will lock and unlock. It did so I'm pretty sure that my truck does have the remote entry capability installed. Thanks for all your help.

Hi mahr57!
If you are looking for the actual keyless entry remotes for your 99', I have two of them. I purchased them with programing instructions off of Ebay for $40.00 , jumping the gun ,only to find out my 99' is not equipped with the keyless entry module.
If you want them, they are yours for what I payed for them-$40.00 including instructions and I'll pay the shipping.
They are useless to me. Just an idea..
