Window Switches and Power Fold Mirror

Hi All,

I have a 2005 King Ranch and I have a few issues im going to try to tackle this weekend. First one is that none of the power windows are working. The switches light up but nothing happens when i push them. i found the how to article on cleaning the contacts, so im gonna try that. The interesting thing i noticed though is that when i press the button to try to move the window, the switch for the heated mirror lights up?

Second thing is that the passenger side power fold mirror only folds in half way? it used to work, but suddenly stopped. i think someone may have hit that mirror too because the little LED lights under the mirror are now loose and floating, so to speak.

My question is, does anyone have any other ideas or thoughts on what to look for? and more importantly, does anyone have a procedure on how to take the mirror apart? pictures or a diagram would be most helpful. Thanks In Advance.

I would start with removing the damaged mirror and retest.

If you have an issue ( depending on the damage ) with one mirror, that could explain why the heated mirror indicator illuminates when you try to operate the window.

Muth has some good directions on removing the door panel and the mirror head itself. might even come in handy for removing the glass to get a good look at what is going on in the mirror head. Search on the page for the MY range and type under the Ford section.

Thanks Scully.

As an update, I cleaned the contacts on the drivers door window controls but the switch is still very tempermental. I ordered a new one from Tasca the other day and should have it Wednesday. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

Secondly, I was able to take the mirror apart without having to take the door panel off and all the other stuff that the Muth manual said. I got a good look at why it wasnt folding in. The mirror was/is broken somehow so it was pushing outwards and applying enough pressure to not allow it to fold. I used some abs glue and a couple of clamps to "fix it" for now and i also gently filed some of the plastic to not allow the pressing so to speak. seems to be working now, for the handful of times i actually fold the mirrors in.

Thanks Again Scully.

STILL NO LUCK WITH THE WINDOW SWITCH.

I installed the new master switch from Tasca about an hour ago and the window controls are still tempermental. Sometimes they will go down other times, they will not. Sometimes, if i open the door, the windows work fine but as soon as the door closes, the windows wont work. obviously if they work part time, its not a fuse, correct? and now that i installed the switch from Tasca, they will not accept a return. oh well, out $70 but the issue still remains.

ANY IDEAS? WHAT/WHAT SHOULD I BE LOOKING AT??? Should i try cleaning the contacts at the other 3 doors? would that matter at all? i dont want to take it to a dealership as i think that will be quite costly for some reason or another.

Thanks again for any input.

No telling what is going on in there.

Mirror is working fine now that i figured out what was wrong there. None of the wiring was damaged when i had it apart, just the plastic was broken. I suppose there could be damage further in the door on the wire but i guess the logic just says How?? I dont know. I think the window and mirror issue might just be coincidental. The mirror was a longer term problem (begining of the year if i remember right), whereas the windows just started with in the last week or so.

The only reason I suggest removing ( really just need to unplug it ) is when you operate the window, the heated glass indicator illuminates.

This leads me to think there is an issue with one of the grounds ( that seems to be the only common item on the surface ).

Max,

As Scully suggests, check the grounds. They are the most often item NOT checked by people and can cause all kinds of "weird" problems.

Also, the thing that caught my attention was when you said, Sometimes, if i open the door, the windows work fine but as soon as the door closes, the windows wont work. Pull the boot where the wires run from the door into the cab and look for a broken wire/s.
