First I am a volunteer firefighter so I run flashing lights to emergency calls.

My question is I have a Sho-Me 27 Pattern LED Strobe Effect Flasher. Would it be possible to hook it up so it flashes my tails, reverse, third brake light, and cargo lights?

I was thinking this since I have all LED bulbs wouldn’t it be the same as hooking it to a standalone LED module.

Would I just wire it into the power wires for all of those functions? Or would it feed back into the system somehow?

I have a 2006 F-150

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Depends on how many outputs the flasher unit has

 

It just has 2 outputs but you can run multiple lights off of each output. I did have some cheap strip lights hooked up but they went bad.

Just trying to think of a cheaper route than paying a couple hundred for lights.

 

If you're going to do this I would advise wig wag's if you're using the OEM stuff... far less stress on the lights and cheaper... it would involve cutting all three harnesses putting a diode on all three oem input wires so the wig wag doesn't backfeed the oem system... this would also stop the backfeeding lighting up both lights at once... this can actually be done very cheaply with a toggle switch 5 bucks, 2 diodes $2, a hazzard light flasher and a 5 pin relay... of course some wire, connectors, heat shrink and soldering... i can go deeper into the install if you wish... it's not going to strobe but it will flash left then flash right and alternate... i wouldn't add the third brake light personally...

 

I would need someone to let me know if the brake lights are triggered by +/- which I believe it's + about 85% sure...

 

Okay so it was 4 diodes and 2 relays...For those who need to know... the fuse is attached to the battery positive... since I forgot to notate that box as the Battery...

You could also do this same set up again at the Cargo light and Third brake light so it alternates between the cargo light and third brake light blink blink...

 

if you really want to wire your unit into the stock lights cut the hot wire to the brake lights, put a diode inline banded towards the light, connect the flasher hot output after the diode and I would put a diode on those wires as well banded towards the light... this will stop any back feeding issues...

 

There is an empty light housing under your reverse light. In Europe, cars have "reverse facing fog lights" so that vehicles behind you can see you in thick fog. In the US, there is nothing there, just a lens with reflector, and no lamp.

Add a lamp. Wire it to your strobe controller.

On my truck, I installed an LED into the empty housing, and an LED into the reverse lamp housing, then set them up to strobe in a wig wag pattern.

 

I changed the lamps over the cab to amber LED. Then spliced the wiring with a DPDT relay. The cab top lights works normally, only in amber instead of white. When I turn on the strobe, they flash along with a hidden LED behind the "dead" red lens under the reverse lamp. Alternately, a hidden white LED nest to the reverse lamp flashes.



I have since also added red LED to the bumper, to flash in sequence with the red tail lamp lens, and changed the amber cab top to flash with the white LED in the reverse light housing.
