Park and tail lights stay on

I have a 2005 ford lariat and returned from vacation to find my battery dead.
I thought there was some sort of current drain as my trailer plug was damaged slightly on the hidden hitch.
I replaced the plug only not harness as I had a spare one.

The park lights and tail lights stay on after the key is shut off.
I don't know if this was original problem that caused my battery to go dead or if it was caused by me replacing trailer plug.
Please give me suggestions to fix this problem.

Thanks

What position is the headlamp switch in when this happens ?

Any aftermarket modifications ?

Are you sure of the trailer tow adapter repair curing the problem of the damage ( or was the damage further back ) ?

Tried the head light switch in all positions and lights still do not shut off.

A topper was installed and the dome light and red topper outside light are tied into the driver tail light wiring but this has been from when the truck was purchased new. I thought maybe this wiring was shorted some how but appears fine.
The wiring after the plug did not appear damaged so I did not replace it.

Is there some sot\rt of switch that could be faulty??
