measuring current draw from electric fan

I recently picked up an electric radiator fan and was wanting to know if I could use my digital voltmeter to measure how much current the fan is drawing from the battery.

If it is possible to measure current w/ a voltmeter, how would I go about doing it?

Thanks

I have yet to see a regular digital or analog voltmeter that didn't require an expensive induction coil or inline shunt (?) to measure the kind of amps required to run an electric cooling fan.

You have to measure amperage in series. But most likely your meter won't be able to handle it. Majority of them only handle 10 amps or less, but the Craftsman meters can go up to 20 amps. Your best bet would be to buy or rent one of those amp clamp-on meters.
