Mystery Connector

What is the empty connector just below the fuse box on the dash?

Also, is there an easy way to hook up a keyless entry system?

I recall seeing that connector under the dash. I always assumed it was for a courtesy light that may have been removed by the previous owner. (The aftermarket remote start was removed but they left the relays for the doorlocks!) ennis

that connector goes to the electronic brake controller, when you equip it. That should have been included with the vehicle (its just a connector with about 4 wires coming out of it that you hook into your electronic brake controller if you choose ot purchase one.

I thought the brake controller plug was the one by the Gas Pedal.

This one is directly under the fuse box.

the plug by the gas pedal (if you mean the one that is attached to the dash, that looks kind of like a computer connector with about 20 wires going into it) is the computer diagnostics connector.

Question electric brake controller

The electionic brake controller... do y'all mean the box you can install to run the brakes on a camper trailer? I've got to install one that was removed from my old explorer and I have NO idea which wires to connect it to. The directions say something (...haven't looked at it in a while...) about cutting into the brake wire - there are 3 or 4 back there and I didn't know which one!!!

If anyone has any help, I sure would appreciate it!!!

Thanks,
Pete

Cool

bluemesa,

Yes, there is a connector built into the wiring for the brake controller so you don't have to hack up the wiring.

Does your truck have the trailer package? You should have a factory receiver hitch with a 7-pin connector. It should have also came with a package containing a pigtail connector, some relays, an adapter to a 4-pin connector, and instructions. If you bought the truck used, it may not be there. I would guess you could buy the package from Ford.

brake controller

I bought the truck used and put the Class III towing package on myself. Already spliced the 7-pin into the existing 4-pin but obviously I have a couple extra wires to attach.

My next hurdle is the controller inside the cab... when I get back from vacation I'm going to have to figure out where to put it - hopefully I can find this adapter and go into that.

Thanks,
Pete
