resetting speedo?
resetting speedo?
What is involved with recalibrating the speedo with a change in tire size? Please be specific. Can this be done at any Ford dealer? I am considering passing on the new Off Road Package for the 2002s, but still want to get good wheels...
Thanks!
Thanks!
Hi.
I just went through this, so maybe my two cents come in handy.
I went from 265/70 17 to 295/45 18 size tires and wheels. That meant that I was 11% off on my speedo and odo reading... I talked with local Ford dealer on recalibrating my gauges for the new tire size and they informed me to talk to a local speed shop. The one that I contacted is called, SPECMO... I am not sure where you live, but you can check with them on the Yellow Pages.
They quoted $354.00 to recalibrate my speedometer and odometer. $50 for dyno, $150 for computer box and $150 for installation. It's a one time deal, and if you ever want to make other changes you will have to pay them $354 again... Hmm...
Here is what I decided to do. SuperChip makes a chip called Flip Chip. They can custom program for any mods that you have done to your vehicle (tire size, blowers, etc...) They charge about the same as what SPECMO would charge me, except with SuperChip, I get additional HP and torque, as well as an opportunity to reprogram it when ever I need to.
If you are interested, there are numerous posts regarding this issue on the "Computer Chips" section.
I hope this helps.
