Steering column
Steering column
Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong section for the question, but im in the process of tearing apart my steering column. reason for this is the key doesnt actually start the truck, the key goes in but when you turn it, nothing at all all it does is turn, so the guy i just bought the truck from pulled out the module that actually engages the start, its a little white box with a piece sticking out and you push that up, it goes into start position, push it up again and it turns over, My question here is,
1. before i get any deeper into the steering column, how difficult is this to do?
2. I have the air bag and steering wheel off, now im about to start with the column itself
3. i guess what im asking is how much actually has to be taken apart to get to this piece i need to fix?
If anyone knows what im talking about or can help me i appreciate it

The white box is the ignition switch. The key goes in the lock cylinder. The "actuators" that join them have either broken or come apart. Click my tan CV in my signature & read the captions in the Steering Column album. The first 2 diagrams show how to disassemble the column. It's not difficult, and doesn't require any special tools, but it's intricate & involves unloading some stout springs. If you're not careful, it can fly out & smack you in the face.
