Interstate MTP, MotorCraft TestedTough, Sears DieHard Gold, or some other top-end Johnson Controls battery.

Any battery I suggested has more CA, CCA, RM, & fewer warranty exclusions than that Optima, at ~1/2 the price.

Hi Fritz4077,
First, congratulations on your current YellowTop. Six years is a great lifespan on any battery. We too are owned by Johnson Controls, but we still manufacture all our batteries in our own facility and they are the only batteries made there. We never re-brand or re-spec our batteries for any of our retail partners. You have mentioned your stereo as a concern for your new purchase and I certainly agree. YellowTops are a dual purpose battery, and that is what you need. One that will not only handle cranking duties and general use, but also one that can handle deep cycle duties, as required by your application. Be sure to consider that when you make your final decision. Also, I encourage people to always do a good check of your complete charging/electrical system to be sure the alternator is still operating at peak performance. Optima batteries need to be charged to at least 12.4 volts to operate properly and YellowTops are fully-charged at about 13-13.2 volts. You may find there is still plenty of life left in your current battery.
As far as warranty goes, it is always a good idea to review the warranty policy on any battery you are considering before you make a purchase. The free replacement warranty period on all new YellowTops has actually been lengthened to three years, since you purchased your battery. Also, keep in mind that different retailers may have different procedures for warranty service.
Again, we appreciate your past business and hope the quality you experienced with that purchase will lead you back to OPTIMA again.
Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about our products.
Thanks,

Bill Howell

Seriously? I must be living right, or maybe it is the cold weather here preserves them

The last two batteries I bought are both over TEN years old. Different makes, nothing special, average price. One was a sealed no maintenance, the other I maintained by watching the electrolyte level and adding a little pure water now and then. Prior to those batteries (still going strong btw) my experience was about the same on two other vehicles in succession.

That is 4 batteries, over the last 30 some years of driving, that all lasted past 10 years. Including the odd boost when drained from forgetting lights on or trying to start in brutal cold, which I mention because I seem to recall hearing that boosting kills battery lifetime.

No extraordinary preservation maintenance on any of them.

I guess this is one of those "your experience may differ" cases. I am sure this is not part of some vast conspiracy of planned obsolesence or the result of increasing inferior overseas manufacture. Right?

Am I about to be (... 5 years down the road from now) disappointed if I have to buy a new battery for my new to me truck?

After Optima was sold by the orginal owners yars ago, production went overseas to 3rd world countries...now while this is not rocket science (how to make a battery), the "scientists" at the "new" optima didn't take into consideration the atmospheric differences which lead to thousands of pre-mature battery failures which of course were all denied by the "New Optima".....

Right now, IMHO you cant beat the price & quality of the motorcraft- I think they are running about $100 at any dealer......I had a coupon and got it for $80...800 CCA's

I must tell you that Motorcraft (used to be one of the best batteries made when made by GNB) has been made by Johnson Controls since around 2003 and are now in the low quality/junk category that most other JC made batteries are. I don't know of an American battery now that even comes close to what GNB and even some other big name batteries USED to be. You make 'em too good, they last too long and the battery companies don't make enough money. Simple as that. Sad but true about most things anymore.

My 2008's lasted until today, after consideration I went with a group 65 Sears diehard platinum, the warranty alone is a great selling feature; 36 mths free replacement and 44 months prorated, a total of 100 mths of warranty. I starter spins so fast now! YMMV $250 out the door.
