Question Horn not working-Airbag light on?

I have seen this problem before on my truck. Now it's up to the same ol thing, Airbag light is on(Flashes three times, pauses, then flashes two times, then repeats over again) and the Horn does'nt work? Everything else seems fine with the truck. If anyone knows why this is happening could you please give me a way to fix it? THX Jim

Is the cruise also not working? 99.9 % of the time this is cause by a bad clockspring. Requires removal of the steering wheel and Air bag module. If you are not familiar with Air bag service this best left to those that are. If you wish to proceed I can help.

Thanks for the info. I do not have cruise control on this vehicle. Is a "bad clockspring" something unsafe to have? I have been driving for 6 months and have not noticed any other problems. Is this problem something reasonable to fix or not worth the money to do? Thx Again...Jim

Hi All, I am going to move this thread to the Electrical Systems forum where it will probably get more attention...

Air Bag removal

I searched for anybody that might have an idea of how to remove the air bag. I came across your discussion regarding steering wheel removal. Here is my somewhat minor problem.

My wife somehow got a penny jammed into the air bag housing on the steering wheel. Everytime we turn, we hear this penny clinking behind the arig bag. I am concerned that if we do get in a wreck, we will have a penny coming at us at 200mph. I would like to get this out. I have a Chiltons manual that tells me to just "remove" the "air bag module" after disconnecting the battery, but this thing scares me. I pulled on it a little and got a screw driver in there, but chickened out after that. Can you help?

What year are your trucks, if they are 1996 or higher I can give you the removal instructions for the air bag and for acembl I can give you the removal instructions for the steering wheel and sliding contact. E-mail me at ronsouthern23@hotmail.com with the subject "air bag" and tell me the year of your truck and your user name from the board.
