2005 F150 Stays on after key removed

Hi Folks,

I have a 2005 F150 4.6L V8 that is having an electrical problem. I think!

It appears as though the dial used to turn t he head lights on is also controlling the ignition switch. If I have the headlights on and turn the vehicle off, the truck keeps on running. The only way it will shut off is if I turn out the headlights. The only thing that doesn't come on or stay on is the radio. I am able to put the truck in and out of gear and drive it. But, if I try to make a turn the steering wheel locks once I get so far, and is no longer driveable.

Also, if the truck is off (keys in my hand) and I turn the headlights on the truck gauges (battery, temperature, etc.) come alive as if I have turned the key to auxillary.

Just wondering if anyone had heard of this and if there is an easy way to troubleshoot or repair it.

Thanks,

Gerard

Have you done any modifications to the truck ( HU, remote start, VSS, etc ) ?

Does it matter if the main headlamp switch is in the park position or the head position ?

When you turn on the headlamps, are you using the auto position ( to the left ) or the on position ( to the right ) ?

Do you have the factory RKE ? ( assuming PDL, which should be confirmed ).

Just bought truck and I don't think there were any mods to it.
Only when the lights are on. Doesn't occur with park lights.

There is no auto selection on the headlight selector.

No power locks no power windows.

With the lights on, does it matter if it is high beams or low beams ?

Do you have fog lamps, and if so is there a modification to them ( allow them to be on with the high beams ) ?

Just trying to figure out if the PO did something stupid to the truck with wiring, this is not a normal occurrence.

OK I ran a few tests to answer your questions:

Truck stays on with low or high beams on.
Fog lights go off when the high beams are on

I appreciate your time in trying to find out a solution to this problem.
