Autometer gauges too bright

What's the best way to dim the lights on these gauges (Autometer GS w/ green LED). I have the gauge lights wired to the dash lights, so they dim w/ the dash lights, but the Autometer lights just overpower everything else.

Keep adding 1N4001 silicon diodes in series with the positive illumination power lead to the gauges until you acheive the desired brightness. Each diode will drop 0.7v.

This way, you won't need to calulate the correct resistor value

Thanks ...

Installation question: Are these something that can be shrink wrapped over, or do they put out heat?

Hey.

They are tiny - and at the current levels we are talking about - no heat issues. They are a 1 amp part ( and 100v PIV). Heatshrink is the way to do it.

Thanks again ...

My concern was if they put out heat and I "insulated" them w/ shrink wrap, they would cook themselves to death.
