Brake controller problums

Need some help folks I have a 97 f150 I purchased this truck second hand. The previouse owner removed the 7 way plug. I decided to install a brake box and attempted to install a 6 way plug since all my trailers have 6 way plugs. All lights work turn brake and running lights however my controller is showing OL when I first hooked it up all was fine I did have to replace the 20amp fuse under the hood to get my lights to work. The brakes on the trailer I was using as a test when hooked up are being applied with out pushing the break in the truck I changed the blue and white wire no change. I am positive there is no issue with the trailer since we pull it weekly with 2 other trucks and ideas or help would be very much apreciated
Thanks
Tim

When you installed the 6 way plug, did you use the factory trailer tow adapter wiring, or wire this DIY ?

When you say you changed the Blue and White wires, you changed the output of the brake controller and ground ? ( Dark Blue is from the 6 pin pigtail in the cab, to the 7 pin trailer tow adapter & White is ground at the frame ).

When you wired the 6 pin, what did you call Aux on the 6 pin ( trailer reverse or trailer battery charge )?

Did you check which version of the 6 pin trailer tow adapter you need ( brake is center or aux is center ) ?

Used original wiring

Yes I used the original wiring from the factory and used a pig tail that I had made my the local trailer wiring place and all is to standard except the digram you have posted is different from the one I found on the internet I have the black wire in center for aux and not using the red wire. will change and to be honest did not really see a color purple wire.
Thanks
Tim

Well, there are 2 standards for the 6 pin, so kind of hard to say that it is wired to the standard.

What black wire do you have in the center ? there is no black on the factory 7 pin trailer tow adapter.

What red wire are you talking about ? The only red wire goes to the 6 pin pigtail in the cab of the truck.

Where do you get purple ? There is a dark blue wire, that is from the brake controller to the 7 pin adapter.

You need to talk in terms of the truck's wiring, what else you added is not needed, and only adds to the confusion ( I have no way of knowing what color wires you used to splice into the factory harness ).

The Orange wire is the trailer tow battery charge circuit.
If the trailer works on other trucks, the battery should be charged, and not really needed to correct the symptoms.

2 places that the cause of the brakes being applied all the time.

1. The trailer brake controller is damaged / set to full brake / is mounted in an orientation that is not allowed.

2. The trailer tow adapter that you spliced into the factory wiring you have the pin for the brakes spliced to the trailer tow battery charge circuit ( which is the aux / brake options on the 2 different 6 pin configurations ).

The other things, what does the OL indicator on the display mean

Problum solved

There was a local trailer sales lot in my area and all my trailers came from there and they also wired up all my trucks as well. The problum was not the truck wiring on this truck but the wiring on my 2 other trucks and 3 trailers now everything is up to standard. My trailers were wired with the AUX and Brake wires reversed changed the wires on trailers and all trucks and everything is working like a champ.
Thanks For all the info
