Cruise diagnostic flashes

Hello all. Cruise control on my 2002 doesn't work. I tried the system diagnostics outlined in other posts. I went through the key on- engine off steps and got the cruise light to flash with the off, on, and resume buttons pushed in sequence.
The cruise light did not come on when I pushed the coast and set/accel buttons. When going through the sequence after I pushed the resume button and the cruise light flashed, I heard a noise come from under the hood (left side). It kind of sounded like a system was "dumping".
Any thoughts on this are greatly appreciated.

Did you have the recall done ?
recall 05S28. Description: Speed Control Deactivation Switch.

did you read the other posts with the test info ?
Immediately (.25 second delay) after the static test, the speed control servo does a dynamic test by automatically actuating the throttle lever from 8 mm (0.315 in) to 12 mm (0.472 in) of travel from the idle position. During the dynamic throttle pull, observe throttle movement to witness any binding or sticking of the speed control cable and correct connection of speed control cable to throttle lever. Make sure the throttle returns to the idle position.
If you did not get a lamp flash after the SET/ACCEL means the static test did not complete. Is it a case of a slight delay, and no flash ( there is a delay from the SET/ACCEL button and the last flash ).

If you are waiting for the delay, and got a flash, how many times did it flash ? ( from other newer posts on the test info ) :

— 2 flashes - BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied, CPP switch or jumper (if equipped).

— 3 flashes - deactivator switch is open or circuit defective.

— 4 flashes - vehicle speed signal is out of range or circuit is defective
Did you change your tail lamps to LEDs ?

Thanks for the response Scully. Recall has been done. I read the other posts and tail lights are OEM. I didn't get any flashes after the flash for the resume button so I'm assuming that the static test did not complete.
If the test didn't complete after testing part way, what does that indicate? (bad module, component, etc.)

Did you press the buttons in order ?

ON, RESUME, COAST and SET/ACCEL

If you got no flash after set/ accel, the test did not complete, try the test again.

Did you follow this part ?

Press each switch in the sequence immediately after the indicator light goes out for the previous switch.
If you wait too long, the test is not begin run correctly ?

Thanks again. I did press the buttons in order. I got a flash after I pushed off, on, and resume only. I didn't get a flash after coast and set/accel.
I tested the system 4 times, pushing the buttons in correct sequence right after the cruise light flashed. Everytime, same result... sequence seemed to stop right after the resume light flashed. That's also the same time I heard a noise from under the hood (on every test)

Might want to check if you have power at the recall harness ( that the fuse in the harness is not blown ).

If this tests good, sounds like the switches are the issue then, with the test results you are getting.

Use a meter, ground on 1 side, and check each pin. 1 side should have + VDC on it at all times.
