Power door lock issue

Hello, all. I'm having an issue with the power door locks on the driver side of my '05 Screw. Here are the symptoms:
  • I can lock all the doors with the driver side switch, but cannot unlock anything. When I push the switch nothing happens. No click, nada.
  • I can lock and unlock all four doors using the the passenger side switch.
  • I can lock and unlock all four doors using the RKE.
  • I took the switch from the driver side and hooked it up on the passenger side and was able to lock and unlock all four doors.
  • When I took the switch from the passenger side over the the driver side, I'm back where I started being able to lock but not unlock.

Since I can lock and unlock using the passenger switch and the RKE, I'm assuming the actuators are good. Could it be a pinched wire somewhere from the driver side door?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The PDL ( with the factory RKE system ) signal the VSM with a ground signal on either the lock or unlock inputs for the VSM to know what to do.

It could be a wire in the door to a-pillar ( unlock is the pink w/ light green stripe wire ) or in the driver's side door sill.

If you want a quick test on the door to a-pillar, you can pull the passenger side door lock switch, and meter from the pink w/ light green stripe wire in the connector to ground.
When the switch is at rest ( not being pressed either way ) the pink w/ light green stripe wire to ground should show an open. When you press the unlock on the switch, the passenger side pink w/ light green stripe wire should show continuity or a low resistance path to ground.

This would tell straight away if the switch to the common splice on the passenger side ( the working side ) is working or not.

I would assume the connector on the VSM ( Vehicle Security Module ) is good, considering the input from the passenger side switch ( same input as the driver's side ) is working correctly.

If the meter shows an open with the driver's side switch being pressed you can reverse the test ( check for continuity on the driver's side when pressing unlock on the passenger side ) to verify this.
I would go looking for the pink w/ light green stripe wire wire to be broken in the rubber channel between the door and the a-pillar 1st, but that is just my thought.

Many thanks. I'll check the wire tomorrow morning.

Man you are good! I went in there today, and sure enough the pink and green wire was cut in two! I patched it up and voila! Doors open!

Next time you're in Pitman, you can come on over for a beer and a cigar.

Thank you for the offer, I'll keep it in mind next time I am in NJ.

Glad to hear it was a fairly easy fix, and the other members that have the same symptoms will appreciate the picture and info. Thank you for the follow up with the solution to the issue.

How does a wire like this break?

It seems like one day it just happened. Is there something I can do to prevent it from happening in the future.
